News & Info: Committee Information

Do you want to know who to call with an idea or concern about something relating to the neighborhood? Do you want to become more involved with neighborhood issues but want to learn more about what is going on? Contact the chairpeople of committees listed below with concerns or offers of help.

Audit Committee
Chair: vacant
At the end of each term of office, this committee reviews the financial records of the association to assure accuracy.

Code Violation
Chair: Kara Harris • 672-9545 • schlicksup@yahoo.com

City code enforcement does periodic sweeps of neighborhoods to make sure properties are kept up, for example no litter, no tall weeds, no broken steps, garbage cans have tight fitting lids, etc. If you have concerns about the condition of a house in the neighborhood, contact the neighborhood code violations chairperson.

Long-range Planning
Chair: Curphy Smith • 530-1571 • curphy.smith@regions.com

This committee is working to generate near- (0-2 yr), short- (2-5 yr) and long-term (5-20 yr) planning priorities for neighborhood projects in the following categories:

  • Home Improvement and Owner Occupancy
  • Public Safety
  • Parks, streets, sidewalks
  • Education
  • Economic Development, City Planning Initiatives, Neighborhood Centers
  • Neighborhood Events

Neighborhood Beautification
Chair: Ron Anderson • 674-3965

This committee has a tree replacement program to help us maintain our tree-lined streets. This committee is also starting up an alley gardening program.

Neighborhood Safety
Chair: Josh and Kara Harris • 672-9545 • jeh579@gmail.com

This committee works on anti-crime efforts, including lighting in alleys and streets, Neighborhood Watch, bicycle, scooter and pedestrian safety.

Parking Committee
Chair: Barbara Drew • 672-0941 • piercedrew@sbcglobal.net

A permit parking system is in effect for certain blocks in the neighborhood to remove the temptation for Bradley students (staff, faculty) to park for free on our streets (avoiding a costly campus parking pass). This committee coordinates with the City TreasurerÕs department to let residents know when parking permits for the calendar year become available.

Traffic
Chair: Ron Douglas • 357-0403 • rkpjdouglas@insightbb.com

The Uplands experiences "cut through" traffic off Main Street or University of cars wanting to avoid traffic lights. This committee works to find ways to minimize cut through traffic, as well as slow any traffic on our streets to at least the 25 mph posted speed limit. In addition, this committee works to enforce "no left turn" signs and stop signs in the neighborhood and to address the condition of the streets--potholes, litter, etc.

Zoning and Land Use
Chair: Bernie Goitein • 637-0460 • bjggoblue@aol.com

Our homes are zoned for residential use. Avanti's and Rafferty's are zoned for commercial use, Bradley Epworth Church is zoned as "special use." Property owners can petition the city to have the zoning of their property changed if they would like to use the building for something other than what it is zoned for. The work of this committee is to stay abreast of requests for zoning changes, with an interest in maintaining residential zoning for properties within the neighborhood. This committee also works to increase owner-occupancy and decrease student density, by monitoring that no more than three unrelated people are living in a single house, and finding ways to decrease the number of multi-unit (duplex, triplex) homes in the neighborhood.

Ad Hoc Committees
Picnic
Chair: vacant

Our neighborhood has an annual picnic in September, in lieu of a neighborhood meeting. For a job description click here.

Garage Sale
Chair: Kay Ahl • 674-1270

Our neighborhood has an annual Neighborhood Garage Sale day in the spring, and occasionally, by popular request, also in the fall. This committee plans and publicizes spring and fall neighborhood sales.
