Get
information about how to safely remodel if you have children under
6. If your child's lead test comes back elevated (over 10), the
health department can do a free lead inspection on your house.
If you have children under 6, YOU WILL HAVE TO REMEDY ANY PROBLEM
WITHIN 30 DAYS AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE. Ask if they can do a unofficial
walk through to tell you where they think the problem is. If the
source of lead is minute dust particles from inside the old window
frame, an easy remedy is to keep windows shut until after age
two, when your child is less susceptible (not putting hands in
mouth all the time).
For more information on lead, see the EPA website: http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/leadinfo.htm#checking
