Needed: Uplands Picnic Chairperson for 2007

Job Description:

Our annual Picnic needs a coordinator for 2007. The picnic can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. For a very basic picnic, work needs to be done only 2 weeks prior to the event (Saturday after Labor Day 2007):

  • Arrange for permit

  • Arrange for Park District to move 15 picnic tables to picnic site

  • Invite dignitaries (City Council reps, fire department)

  • Publicize event (submit description for newsletter, make and post signs at entrance to neighborhood)

  • Meat ordering/grilling/beverages (For the past several years, Bill and Linda Gilbert have handled all details of food/grilling, drink and paper goods. If they are not available for 2007, they can provide food order, grill instructions, information on logistics.)

    Optional duties/activities:

In the past, picnic activities have included a kid’s bike parade, bocce ball tournament, bean bag toss, Kid’s bouncer, storyteller, live music, petting zoo, information table, face painting. None of these activities are vital to a successful picnic, however, with a phone call, neighbors who have coordinated these activities in the past will be happy to do so again for future picnics!
